OUR PARTNERSHIPS

CJ Arms wholeheartedly embraces our social, environmental and academic partnerships

CJ Arms is a long-time financial supporter of the Odonata Foundation, whose raison d’être is saving threatened species, which we reckon is a valuable cause.

As well as providing financial support, we work in partnership with Odonata because we know that together we can be more effective.

The foundations of Odonata’s work are the predator proof sanctuaries at Mt Rothwell and Tiverton, where populations of Eastern Quoll, Eastern Barred Bandicoot, and Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby now flourish. Such important work, but still so far to go. The dream is that the sanctuary fences will one day be removed, and quolls, bandicoots, and other native animals will once again freely roam the Australian landscape. More of Odonata’s ground-breaking research, advocacy work, and community empowerment programs are needed.

CJ Arms is backing them all the way.

Where it all began

In 2017, while working together on a land development project in outer west Melbourne, Nigel Sharp (Chair and Founder of Odonata Foundation) told Chris Arms (Founder of CJ Arms) about what he was trying to achieve with Odonata. On the spot, Chris agreed to sponsor the not-for-profit and they shook hands.

Chris was beginning to realise the business could not have the impact that he wanted within the narrow confines of engineering consultancy. So, he chose to transform CJ Arms in three key areas – biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability. As this has involved completely turning the business around, partnering with Odonata has helped inspire this transformation and newfound purpose.

Entering into the business of biodiversity has offered CJ Arms ethically rich work as well as the opportunity to work on profoundly different and meaningful projects. In addition to being profitable for the client, CJ Arms looks to create destinations that make a tangible difference not only to peoples’ lives but also to the environment.

In exchange, CJ Arms’ sponsorship is helping Odonata take on more paid staff so they can focus on the work they do best. In addition to direct financial support, CJ Arms honours the partnership through in kind support on some really special projects: from the Wild Idea Incubator and Nature Boss Advisory, to designing and building a Ranger’s hut for Tiverton, and playing an instrumental role in the release of Eastern Quolls at Tiverton.

The relationship is a great example of how commercial and not-for-profit business can work together to generate far reaching social and environmental transformations.

The Adventures of Calli the Quoll

Pounce into the wild world of Calli and Rocky the eastern quolls as they embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

Will they ever see their best friend Banksia the eastern barred bandicoot again?

Is Kel the kookaburra really quoll-ified to help them find her?

How on earth did a group of designers and scientists end up creating a kid’s
PICTURE BOOK?

To truly MAKE A DIFFERENCE, you need to THINK DIFFERENTLY. This goes some way to explaining how “The Adventures of Calli the Quoll” came to be, but let’s unpack it a bit more.

We are all given the OPPORTUNITY to think differently every single day. At CJ Arms we are not only given that opportunity, but we are supported in that thinking. So, in between creating better places for people, communities, and the environment, we CREATED A BOOK. It ticks so many boxes for us – it supports ODONATA in the work they do, has helped us to CONNECT more deeply with our PURPOSE, and is serving to educate and inspire.

Rest easy that you’ll not only love the book, but money raised goes directly to support Odonata’s business of BIODIVERSITY. Win-win.
