Project Description

The Challenge:

Highpoint is the major shopping centre in Melbourne’s west with over 15 million customer visits each year. We were involved in a major expansion of the centre to increase lettable retail space by 20%.

Through our initial options analysis work and feasibility investigations we identified and assessed all water users throughout the centre. Our analysis revealed peak water use periods, diurnal variations, and building populations.

Our Solution:

We used our findings to develop a range of water sustainability options for enhanced building performance, water efficiency, water recycling and reuse, and sustainable stormwater management.

The Results:

The new shopping centre is a beautiful new space attracting thousands of visitors each week.

Our recommendations for water management and sustainability have been incorporated into the design and because of this the project meets water sustainability stretch targets, making a significant contribution to water conservation and minimizing waste. The new Highpoint also features swales and raingardens to slow and filter stormwater from the car parks.

  • Water usage reduced by 60%
  • Sustainable stormwater management
  • Minimised waste
